Where Our Flax Comes From

Every piece we make starts as flax in a field, long before it's fabric. I think that's worth remembering, and worth being able to trace.

Our linen is woven from long-staple European flax, grown with minimal irrigation — flax is naturally suited to temperate climates and needs very little of it compared to other fibre crops. We work with mills who share our standard for traceability, so every bolt of fabric can be followed back to the field it came from.

Why traceability matters to us

It's easy to say a fabric is "sustainable" without being able to back it up. I'd rather be able to answer specific questions about where our linen comes from and how it's processed, than make a broad claim I can't stand behind. That traceability is also, honestly, part of why our linen feels the way it does — flax grown and processed carefully produces a noticeably better fabric.

It's a small thing, in a way — knowing the field a fabric came from. But it's the kind of small thing that adds up to how we do everything else here.
