Caring for Linen: A Simple Guide

Linen has a reputation for being high-maintenance that it doesn't really deserve. A few small habits are all it takes to keep it looking — and feeling — its best for years.

Washing

Wash cold, on a gentle cycle, and skip the fabric softener — linen doesn't need it, and it can actually coat the fibres and dull the texture over time. Wash similar colours together, and don't overload the machine; linen needs room to move.

Drying

Line dry whenever you can. The dryer is what shortens a linen garment's life fastest — high heat weakens the fibres over time. If you must use one, low heat and remove it slightly damp.

The crease

Linen creases — that's part of its character, not a flaw. If you want it smoother, iron while still a little damp, on a warm (not hot) setting. Ironing bone dry takes more effort and more heat than the fabric needs.

Treated this way, our pieces don't just last — they get better. The softening you'll notice after a few washes is linen settling into its best state, not a sign of wear.
